Just a little about me...

So, you wanna know more about me. :)

My name is Lindsay. I have 15+ years experience as a Certified Nursing Assistant and Medical Technician in the state of Maryland. I have worked in various healthcare settings including home health care, nursing homes, hospitals, and long term care facilities, and with many different folks including terminally ill, injured, elderly, and developmentally disabled. I've always had a knack or "knowing" for people's ailments. Currently, I work in a shop in the electronic cigarette field. I love my job because I am helping people quit smoking the same way I did and I see lots of success.

My parents are both professionals, my dad is a contract negotiator for the US Government and my mother has been an RN for 25 years. I have 1 sister who shares my interest in natural health and has been a sucessful vegan for 10+ years. I am mother to two gorgeous girls 9 & 3, and also my equally gorgeous stepdaughter who is 11. I have been with my husband off and on since I was 14 years old. We also have 4 cats- Gallifrey, Strax, Cooper and Butterscotch. We are a funny little family and as you can tell, each of us is a big fan of Doctor Who.

Over the years I have participated in many endeavors including 4 years of roller derby (started playing in Ohio, and then went on to start my own team in Maryland), fire dancing, musical theater, photography and other forms of art. I love gardening and growing my own fruit and veggies, sadly though where I live its nearly impossible to grow even a weed. I manage to grow herbs in pots in my little greenhouse but thats about all I can manage.

I have spent years as a vegetarian, then years as a strict vegan. I have also followed a pescatarian diet, gluten free, low carb, you name it. I have many friends with severe food allergies, and find their diets so fascinating I put myself on their regimen for at least a month to get a feel for things. Amongst my goals I want to obtain a degree in Holistic Nutrition.

In November of 2007 I had weight loss surgery done. Its called a "Biliopancreatic Diversion with a Duodenal Switch", or BPD, and is a major, MAJOR abdominal surgery. I didnt do it for looks, I didnt lose weight "the easy way", and it didnt come off over night. I had to work VERY hard for over a year to reach my goal, and I still have to maintain very carefully, including taking a large amount of vitamins every single day...and will continue to do so for the rest of my life. But it is worth it 100,000% and I would absolutely do it again.

In 2002 I attempted to quit my bad smoking habit with a program called "Smoke Away". It was a homeopathic smoking cessation kit, complete with sugar nicotine drops, cds, etc. It worked very well, and even though I eventually went back to smoking because of stress (I have since quit again and havent touched a cigarette in 4 1/2 years) that was when my interest in natural health, holistic and homeopathy began.

There was a psychiatrist in my town known for taking holistic approaches in his practice, and once a month he would have free classes on different topics of such. I attended every class and became more and more impressed with it.

For the following years I kept researching and applying what I could, however I wasnt sure of which direction I was going with it. I attended college in the pre-med program briefly, however soon discovered the disdain most Western/Allopathic practitioners have for any form of natural healing. I was surrounded by people who were convinced that unless it was a chemical medication, man-produced at a factory and prescribed, it would not do a thing.
